Investments in ABBYY technologies turn into efficient management of Philippine Airlines' archives

Philippine Airlines (PAL), Asia’s first airline serving 18 domestic and 24 international destinations and carrying millions of passengers annually, faced a growing paper problem: more than 400,000 paper tickets a month that audit and accounting teams needed to match, validate and archive. In 2005 PAL sought a way to digitally archive and route these tickets and other official documents to improve processing, tracking and investigation.

PAL implemented an electronic archiving system built by Pericom Imaging using ABBYY FormReader Enterprise Edition with FlexiCapture integrated into its content management software. The solution automatically captures variable-format ticket data, links extracted flight and ticket numbers to scanned images, and routes records through scanning, recognition, verification and export stations—processing up to 20,000 tickets a day and replacing manual key‑in while improving archival quality and customer responsiveness.
