Innovative Rehabilitation Technology Inc. (IRTI) Teams with ABBYY to Help People with Print Disabilities

Innovative Rehabilitation Technology, Inc. (IRTI), a small California company founded in 1979 that creates software for people with print disabilities, developed eClipseWriter to produce DAISY digital talking books. To automate the conversion of printed materials into accessible, navigable content (chapters, lists, tables) for students, educators, government agencies and individuals with visual or reading impairments, IRTI needed a reliable OCR solution.

IRTI integrated ABBYY FineReader Engine into eClipseWriter, enabling accurate recognition of document structure and streamlined DAISY production. Since launching eClipseWriter 4.0 with ABBYY in 2007, the company has seen significant sales growth and expanded into education, government and other new markets, helping customers meet accessibility requirements and reach a broader audience.
