Grupo Financiero Uno (GFU) is a leading Central American financial services group whose consumer credit card arm serves nearly a million cardholders across multiple countries. In Nicaragua GFU had spent 12 years manually entering credit card applications with 16 clerks, a process that was severely understaffed, slow and error-prone, constraining growth and daily throughput.
GFU replaced an ineffective prior vendor with ABBYY FormReader Desktop Edition, redesigning the form and tuning templates with ABBYY support. After a two-day training and a two-month rollout, the solution achieved 98% recognition accuracy on Spanish hand-printed applications, reduced data entry staff from 16 to one (redeploying others to customer service), tripled daily processing capacity, sped up application status reporting, and is being rolled out to other regional offices.
