YUM! Restaurants (China), the Shanghai-based arm of YUM! Brands and operator of more than 7,100 restaurants, faced a massive daily document challenge: tens of thousands of VAT and shipping invoices were being processed manually across dozens of offices, causing errors, slow contract matching and high labor costs. To improve speed and accuracy the company decided to centralize financial operations and automate invoice data capture.
YUM implemented a Financial Shared Service Center using ABBYY FlexiCapture Distributed: branch offices scan invoices and send images to the FSSC, where the software classifies documents, extracts data, applies validation rules and exports results to the ERP for automated contract matching. The change—delivered in about a year—quadrupled daily processing capacity to over 20,000 invoices, cut the workforce from 900+ to under 100, achieved roughly 70% fully automatic recognition, and substantially improved data quality and processing speed.
