Data Entry and Classification Process Improvements Help BSV Mission

BreastScreen Victoria is a statewide public health program in Australia that provides free breast screens (around 246,000 per year) and is facing growing demand from an ageing population. Its challenge was time-consuming, repetitive paperwork and manual data entry that slowed intake and follow-up, and a need to move invitations, registrations and historical files into an efficient electronic workflow.

BSV implemented Objectif Lune PlanetPress/PlanetPress Connect for personalized, HTML-rich email reminders and confirmations and engaged Pitney Bowes with ABBYY FlexiCapture to OCR, extract and classify registration and historical forms. The changes pre-populate registration forms, store records in the Gecko patient system, and have driven results including a rise in online bookings from 8% to 30%, 40% of patients opting for email confirmations (cutting paper/postage), and 85% of scanned forms automatically classified—delivering significant time and cost savings.
