Costain, a leading UK smart infrastructure solutions provider for energy, water, transportation and defense, set out to modernize its procure-to-pay operation and upskill its finance team. The department was burdened by highly manual invoice handling — staff printed and sorted incoming invoices into piles — and needed a robust content-intelligence solution that could integrate with its RPA stack to reliably extract unstructured invoice data and relieve limited internal resources.

Costain deployed ABBYY FlexiCapture integrated with UiPath to automatically ingest, recognize and process invoices with high accuracy, producing compliance-ready audit trails. The platform now processes 80% of invoices straight-through, handling roughly 400,000 invoices and cutting about nine minutes per invoice, delivering significant cost savings, increased capacity and freeing staff to focus on higher-value work.
