Climate Change 2.0 Adopts FineReader to Make Data Available

Climate Change 2.0, founded by Robert Pollard, is a nonprofit initiative that aims to create an open-source public/private network for sharing information on sustainable development and climate change. The organization faced a major challenge: important research and UN documents were trapped in scanned prints and PDFs, making them difficult to search, share, and use for collaboration.

To solve this, Climate Change 2.0 adopted ABBYY FineReader and PDF Transformer to perform OCR and convert files into editable formats (WordPerfect, RTF, HTML), freeing up content such as the seminal Our Common Future report. After nearly three years of use the group has converted more than 1,000 documents for easy online access and plans to expand the archive toward 12,000 items while engaging students and interns to grow the collection.
