Chilean Judiciary Chooses ABBYY to Handle the Daily Flow of Civil Lawsuits

Poder Judicial (the Judicial Power of Chile) oversees a large civil court system that was struggling with an intense flow of image-based, non-searchable PDF documents. Without searchable text or metadata, archives were inaccessible and editing or rapid retrieval of case information required excessive manual effort and staff time.

Working with partner Comercial SF, Poder Judicial deployed ABBYY Recognition Server to apply high-accuracy (about 99%) OCR, convert image PDFs into editable documents, and add searchable metadata for cataloging. The solution automates processing of roughly 35 million pages a year, drastically speeds searches and case handling, and cut the workforce required for the workflow from about eight people to two (a fourfold reduction).
