Butagaz, a major French multi-energy supplier (part of DCC), set out to simplify and speed up customer onboarding on its mobile-first website. The company needed an integrated, intelligent solution to let customers switch natural gas and electricity suppliers quickly by photographing old bills, while the back office required automated recognition and classification to streamline processing.

Butagaz integrated ABBYY’s FlexiCapture to extract bill type and meter ID from smartphone photos, automatically categorize the data, return price estimates on butagaz.fr and allow online contract signing. The implementation cut onboarding to under three minutes with no service interruption or third-party involvement, increased mobile conversion through faster data processing, and contributed to Butagaz winning best customer service and user experience on its website in 2020.
