Brazilian Federal Tax department successfully deploys 875 licenses of ABBYY® FineReader® in 23 locations

Secretaria da Receita Federal (SRF), Brazil’s federal tax department, faced a massive document‑digitization challenge: roughly 1,000,000 active tax processes averaging 100 pages each across hundreds of sites. For a rollout involving 417 desktop and 23 production scanners across 23 locations, SRF needed a high‑accuracy OCR that could run several hundred concurrent licenses centrally and pass strict homologation tests (minimum 98% recognition).

ABBYY partner NT Imagem implemented ABBYY FineReader in concurrent mode on 1,500 workstations with 875 centrally managed licenses and user training. ABBYY delivered a new licensing algorithm in FineReader 9.0 to eliminate server delays, achieved better than 99.5% recognition in testing, provided a Portuguese interface, and enabled SRF to reliably convert paper to electronic records at scale.
