Balfour Beatty Rail, a global rail engineering and construction business with about 3,000 employees, faced a slow, error-prone procurement workflow: supplier pricing arrived as scanned PDFs and staff spent up to four hours per file manually retyping data into Excel to feed their costing tools, delaying bids and reducing productivity.
Working with distributor trigono, they implemented ABBYY FineReader OCR to convert scans and PDFs directly into editable Excel. The change cut conversion time from 4 hours to about 10 minutes per file, eliminated manual retyping, improved accuracy and document searchability, and allowed faster, more competitive bidding that increased their share of won projects.
