ABBYY’s FineReader saves G.E.M Associates money and time

G.E.M. Associates, an established UK management and housing consultancy for the public sector, relied heavily on client-supplied documents—many only available on paper—to produce policy manuals, training materials and online guides. Manually retyping lengthy files (some up to 85 pages) and reproducing formatted forms was time-consuming, costly and made it hard to convert reliably between Word, PDF and HTML while preserving original layouts.

G.E.M. implemented ABBYY FineReader 9.0 to OCR and convert paper and PDF documents into editable, searchable files with accurate layout retention (tables, columns, graphics). The solution removed most manual retyping, sped turnaround from up to four days to a few hours in many cases, cut costs and improved accuracy for Word, PDF, Excel and HTML deliverables.
