A ABBYY Case Study
Alfa Bank, one of Russia’s largest retail banks, faced mounting delays and costs from a vast paper archive as consumer lending grew—cataloguing a single client file could take six weeks or more and retrieving documents up to two business days. The bank set out to create a centralized electronic archive to reduce archive administration hours, provide fast, user-friendly access across branches, and digitize both the backlog and incoming client files without disrupting daily operations.
Following a tender, IBM supplied the infrastructure and DB2 Content Manager while ABBYY provided scanning hardware and ABBYY FormReader 6.5 Enterprise Edition for automated data capture. The e-archive processed over 3.7 million documents in the first five months, cut time spent on archived documents by 80%, and paid back its investment within a year. The solution also sped loan processing—scanning-to-scoring in about six minutes and a fivefold faster credit decision—now deployed across 200+ offices with capacity for millions of documents annually.
