ABBYY Helps Land Registry on its Journey to Becoming a World Leader in Digital Delivery of Services

Land Registry, the UK government department that records ownership of more than 24 million land and property titles, launched the e-DRS programme to let customers submit and receive property applications electronically. Many submissions arrived as locked PDFs or image files (TIFF, JPEG, GIF) that weren’t machine-readable, forcing staff to manually key data; Land Registry wanted to speed processing, cut costs and reduce fraud risk by automatically digitising form data.

After trialling several tools, Land Registry selected ABBYY FlexiCapture Server for its accuracy, scalability and licensing. The solution extracts key fields from scanned forms into a DB2 database that feeds casework systems, enabling pre-population of records, significantly reducing manual data entry, supporting rapid deployment with responsive ABBYY support, and scaling to process millions of pages annually.
