A ABBYY Case Study
Dimacofi, a Chilean document-management firm, was contracted to help process SIMCE, the national education assessment that collects test answers and teacher/parent questionnaires across thousands of schools. The program generates a very large volume of primarily hand-filled paper forms (almost 14 million forms nationwide in 2008), and Dimacofi’s initial 2008 scope required processing ~300,000 pages with 30 form types and 50 templates under a 30-day turnaround—creating a high-accuracy, high-throughput data-capture challenge that manual entry could not meet.
Dimacofi deployed a solution from partner SWYP built around ABBYY FormReader 6.5 plus dedicated scanning, recognition and verification stations and three shifts of operators. The automated workflow (scan → recognition → verification → export) eliminated much manual entry, delivered high recognition accuracy, sped up processing, reduced implementation and maintenance costs, earned positive government feedback, and positioned Dimacofi to bid for larger portions of the SIMCE contract.
