ABBYY FlexiCapture Processes Engineering Designs for a Chinese Nuclear Power Giant

China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), a large state-owned nuclear power engineering and construction group, was overwhelmed by mountains of paper—engineering drawings, blueprints and technical schemes in Chinese—leading to slow document retrieval, costly physical storage and risk of data loss. The core challenge was reliably extracting structured data from highly variable printed and handprinted engineering documents and loose-layout schemes.

Working with ABBYY partner Shanghai Taibi, CGN deployed ABBYY FlexiCapture (one-day setup plus brief template-training) to scan, classify and extract required fields using flexible templates and strong Chinese OCR/ICR, with operator verification to meet accuracy targets. Over the course of one year the solution digitized the archive, exported validated data into SAP, and significantly reduced manual entry, retrieval time and storage costs.
