Community Eye Care (CEC) is a Charlotte-based administrator of vision benefits that processes about 150,000 HCFA 1500 claim forms annually, 56,000 of which arrived on paper. Manual data entry into its SPECS management system required four staff, was error-prone and slow, and would have forced additional hires as volume grew.
Working with ScanStore, CEC implemented a customized ABBYY FlexiCapture solution (including color-dropout and image-overlay verification) integrated with SPECS. The system now automates roughly 80% of claims, greatly improves accuracy and processing speed, cuts costs, boosts employee satisfaction, and eliminated the need to add claims processors.
