Karl HESS (Karl HESS GmbH & Co. KG), a German plastics and tool manufacturer serving the automotive and appliance industries with 550 employees, faced a legacy ERP that was no longer upgradeable due to heavy customizations and lacked essential automation and EDI capabilities. In 2014 they selected abas ERP (vendor: abas) because the standard release provided the missing functions and the flexibility they needed.

abas implemented abas ERP along with abas scanner solutions, abas Business Apps, DocuWare integration and abas APS synchronized with Arburg machines (rough planning in abas ERP, advanced planning in abas APS). The rollout increased automation—particularly EDI—shortened and simplified business processes, synchronized production status across abas ERP, abas APS and the Arburg control center, and produced machine completion confirmations every five minutes; Karl HESS now operates 60 abas licenses and reports improved flexibility, speed and robustness in its operations.
