Zebra Technologies Provides Durable UID Labeling Solution for J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd.

J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd. (JCB), a manufacturer of heavy equipment for military and industrial use, needed a reliable way to meet the U.S. Department of Defense’s Unique Identification (UID) requirements for high-value parts on its high-mobility engineered excavators (HMEEs). JCB’s challenge was to create durable, machine-readable labels that could survive harsh field conditions while supporting accurate asset tracking and compliance. To evaluate options, JCB worked with A2B Tracking and Zebra Technologies.

A2B Tracking recommended Zebra Z-Ultimate label material, a Zebra 105SL thermal transfer printer, and A2B’s UID Comply! software to generate and manage MIL STD 130-compliant 2-D Data Matrix labels. The solution automated UID data entry, parent/child part relationships, and reporting to the DoD IUID Registry. JCB reported that the labels were durable through testing, resistant to oil, chemicals, and temperature extremes, and the system was intuitive and accurate enough for small labels. The Zebra/A2B solution helped JCB achieve UID compliance quickly and support traceability for parts and repairs across the lifecycle of its machines.
