Utah Telecom Redefines Perception of City-Operated Service Providers

Spanish Fork Community Network (SFCN) is a city-owned telecom in Spanish Fork, Utah, that provides telephone, digital TV and Internet services while rolling out fiber to residents. As its customer base grew, SFCN faced IPv4 address exhaustion but couldn’t afford to buy more IPv4 space or rip-and-replace equipment for an IPv6 migration, and needed a SIP-aware, carrier-grade solution that fit a municipal budget.

SFCN deployed the A10 Thunder CGN to implement SIP-capable NAT, expand routable IPv4 capacity and build a reverse-translation bridge toward IPv6. The right-sized, cost-effective deployment reclaimed IPv4 space, supported continued customer growth and revenue, ensured high availability, and gave the city time and a clear path to migrate to IPv6—along with vendor flexibility and support tailored to a smaller organization.
