Newcastle University Selects A10 Networks Application Delivery Controllers for Critical International Learning Environment

Newcastle University, a Russell Group research university with growing international campuses in Malaysia and Singapore, needed a modern, high-performance Application Delivery Controller after Microsoft’s ISA load‑balancing platform was discontinued. With around a thousand servers, extensive VLE and Exchange workloads, and rapidly expanding overseas student numbers, the IT team required a scalable, secure solution to support global services and future initiatives.

The university deployed two A10 Networks ADCs in an active/passive failover, enabling SSL offload, MAPI and HTTP load balancing, and HTTP compression. The rollout was smooth and transparent, delivering 100% uptime since the change, roughly 50% bandwidth savings from compression, simple reporting and management, and plans to extend A10’s SoftAX software ADC to unify delivery across its international campuses.
