Fast Growing Australian Satellite-focused ISP and Telco Harnessing the Scale of LSN

SkyMesh is an Australian satellite-focused ISP and telco serving NBN fibre, wireless and satellite customers nationwide. Facing IPv4 scarcity, SkyMesh was using Large Scale NAT (CGN) but their existing Cisco routers were maxing out (100% CPU around 130k sessions), causing packet drops and unreliable behavior; a tested Cisco ASR replacement also failed to meet load, so they sought a more scalable, cost‑effective preservation solution.

They deployed an A10 CGN as a drop‑in replacement with all‑inclusive licensing, which handled 200,000 sessions in production within two months and averaged 220 Mbps (peaks ~250 Mbps) while barely using CPU resources (~1%). Built‑in ALGs resolved NAT issues (including SIP, avoiding an SBC), the switchover was seamless, and the platform consolidated legacy appliances while providing headroom for substantial growth and future IPv6 transition (DS‑Lite/NAT64) with planned HA.
