Australian Conglomerate Deploys vThunder ADC to Increase Availability and Security of Microsoft Exchange

Wesfarmers, one of Australia’s largest conglomerates (brands include Coles, Bunnings and Officeworks), needed to replace an end-of-life Microsoft ISA Server 2006 reverse proxy that supported Exchange and web access for head office staff. The IT team required a virtual appliance that fit their VMware environment, delivered secure external access to Exchange and mobile email, and avoided costly hardware refreshes.

Wesfarmers selected A10 Networks’ vThunder ADC virtual appliances and deployed them in Perth and Melbourne without adding hardware. The solution was quick to implement, cost-effective, and delivered higher Exchange availability, improved security and SSL offload capability, and reduced capital and operating expenses while leaving substantial unused capacity (5–10%) for future scaling and services like WAF and GSLB.
