Accelerating Online Shoppers Globally with Scalable Load Balancing

Shopzilla, a global shopping comparison site that also runs the BizRate consumer feedback network, serves about 20 million unique visitors a month with 50,000–70,000 concurrent users and multiple US and European data centers. Facing end-of-life Juniper load balancers and the need to guarantee low latency and massive concurrent connections—especially during holiday traffic spikes—Shopzilla required a more scalable, high-performance load balancing solution.

Shopzilla deployed A10 ADC appliances in high-availability pairs, replacing legacy devices and consolidating load balancers at a 3:1 ratio. A10’s VIP-of-VIP, Layer‑7 dynamic weighting, aFleX scripting and optimized hardware delivered lower latency, seamless traffic redirection, easier capacity scaling, reduced rack space/power/admin overhead and improved support—successfully handling peak holiday traffic and providing room for future growth.
