A Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Using OpenStack Case Study

Deutsche Telekom’s TeraStream pilot reimagined the operator network as an all‑IP, cloud‑enabled IPv6 core and faced the challenge of delivering legacy IPv4 and L4–7 services without sacrificing performance, latency or cost. The program needed an elastically scalable, ETSI‑NFV‑compliant design that automated provisioning, avoided vendor lock‑in and preserved simplicity and openness while supporting high‑volume data‑plane functions.

To solve this, Deutsche Telekom partnered with A10 Networks to deploy vThunder implementing LW4o6 Softwires and integrated it with OpenStack and A10’s aCloud pay‑as‑you‑go licensing. The virtualized solution provided carrier‑grade IPv4‑over‑IPv6 services with automated orchestration, per‑subscriber differentiation and elastic scaling—delivering faster deployments, improved agility and strong ROI for cloud‑based network services.
