Smart hydrants prevent unauthorized water withdrawal

Hawle Service GmbH, a provider of services and fittings for water systems, faced the challenge of preventing unauthorized and unqualified use of above-ground hydrants, which distorted water balances and risked contaminating drinking water. They partnered with A1 Digital and its Managed Connectivity and IoT solution to address this issue.

A1 Digital implemented a solution using SIM chips soldered into sensor-equipped hydrant caps to transmit data via GSM. Their SIMplify platform allowed Hawle to manage the chips and only pay for service upon a hydrant's commissioning. The IoT platform provided real-time monitoring on a map, instant alerts, and sensor management. The result was a highly reliable system that allowed for the retrofitting of hydrants across Europe, with the first units operating for over a year without a single failure.
