Case Study: CERN stores petabytes of research data with A1 Digital's Exoscale cloud

A A1 Digital Case Study

Preview of the CERN Case Study

CERN Storing data for the world's largest machine

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) faced the challenge of managing and analyzing the massive, petabyte-scale datasets generated by its research, including the Large Hadron Collider and its CLOUD project. They required a high-performance, secure, and cost-effective cloud environment that could meet the specific needs of a publicly funded scientific institution.

A1 Digital, through its Exoscale cloud platform, provided the solution by contributing significant resources, including 10,000 CPU cores and one petabyte of storage, to the Helix Nebula Science Cloud initiative. This allowed CERN and other European research institutions to collaboratively store, manage, and analyze data in a secure European cloud. The initiative's success helped pave the way for the broader European Open Science Cloud, giving over 70 million science professionals a virtual environment for cross-border research.
