Case Study: CERN achieves reliable, large-scale global live streaming with Wowza Video

A Wowza Video Case Study

Preview of the CERN Case Study

World’s leading particle-physics lab relies on Wowza Streaming Engine

CERN, the world’s leading particle-physics laboratory, needed to modernize its broadcast system to serve tens of thousands of collaborators and a global public audience on a wide range of devices. The lab required a streaming solution that could deliver reliably at global scale, support many device types and network conditions, and be easy to deploy and manage with minimal infrastructure overhead.

CERN adopted Wowza Streaming Engine (with Wowza Transcoder) to power its expanded streaming program, including the Higgs boson announcement with dual speaker and slideshow feeds. Wowza’s transcoding and delivery capabilities enabled 5 Gbps streams to more than 5,000 simultaneous connections, supported TEDxCERN’s 10,870 unique live viewers, and gave CERN the scalability and confidence to run roughly 300 events per year and handle 6,000+ concurrent viewers and growing.
