Unique Media Unites Wowza and Peer5 With Enterprise Webcast Solution

Unique Media, working with Wowza Media Systems, supports internal webcasting for a Fortune 50 technology company that reaches nearly 200,000 employees across more than 100 countries. The challenge was peak-demand "last-mile" congestion: when many employees in the same office tried to watch HD streams simultaneously, local ISP and CDN capacity could be saturated, degrading or preventing the webcast.

Unique Media integrated Peer5’s peer-assisted delivery with Wowza Streaming Cloud and Wowza Player so viewers share video segments over the office LAN while Wowza remains the primary server. In a Sept. 2017 broadcast to ~30 offices (peak ~1,300 viewers) about 370 GB was delivered and 93% of traffic was served peer-to-peer (only 7% from the server), freeing substantial bandwidth, improving quality and reliability, expanding geographic coverage, and lowering delivery costs.
