Fostering community by streaming with Wowza Streaming Engine

Southeastern University, a Christian college in Florida, wanted to expand live streaming of chapel services and commencements but faced limits in infrastructure and staff. The school needed a scalable solution that avoided manual creation of multiple renditions, distributed to its Roku channel, protected proprietary content, and reduced equipment and labor overhead.

By deploying Wowza Streaming Engine (with transcoding) in the cloud via AWS and using Akamai for delivery, SEU now sends a single high-quality stream that Wowza adapts for any device and bandwidth. The change drove a 49% increase in weekly live streaming, delivered ~1.2 million viewer-minutes to about 32,000 unique viewers over six semesters, expanded community outreach, and produced clear cost, labor, and security benefits.
