A Workhuman Case Study
bp, a global energy company of about 73,000 employees guided by core values like safety and one team, faced a fragmented approach to recognition: roughly 30% of staff received any formal recognition, budgets were underused, and local teams ran inconsistent, hard-to-use programs that made cross‑department and cross‑country recognition difficult. With recognition flagged as a priority—especially in Upstream—bp sought a single, modern solution to engage its diverse workforce and simplify giving recognition.
In partnership with Workhuman, bp launched Energize!, a global peer‑to‑peer rewards and recognition platform that integrates programs like Helios and the employee referral scheme, supports non‑office workers, and standardizes award levels across countries. The program generated 12,000 recognition moments in the first two months and more than 500,000 to date, and is linked to significantly lower turnover—50% lower for recognized new hires and a 66% reduction in Hungary for employees receiving three awards per year—while reinforcing core values such as safety.
