A Siemens Healthineers Case Study
The customer, West Virginia University, faced the challenge of diagnosing a rare case of pelvic osteomyelitis in a 12-year-old boy after an initial MRI proved inconclusive. Siemens Healthineers provided a solution using their Symbia Intevo system and xSPECT Bone reconstruction software to perform a Tc-MDP bone SPECT/CT scan.
The solution implemented by Siemens Healthineers allowed for sharp delineation of acetabular hypermetabolism, which was key to diagnosing the osteomyelitis. This precise imaging, in correlation with CT and MRI findings, directly guided successful surgical drainage and subsequent antibiotic therapy, confirming the diagnosis and enabling effective treatment to avoid permanent hip joint defects.
