A Siemens Healthineers Case Study
New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center faced the challenge of conclusively diagnosing a patient with cognitive decline and memory impairment to determine eligibility for new anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody therapies. Initial diagnostic workups, including an MRI and a cerebrospinal fluid analysis, provided only indeterminate results, creating a need for a more definitive assessment of cortical beta-amyloid plaque burden.
Siemens Healthineers provided a solution using their Biograph mCT system and syngo.MI Neuro software for beta-amyloid PET/CT imaging. This approach allowed for the quantitative visualization and analysis of amyloid plaques, confirming a high pathological burden and making the patient eligible for treatment. The solution provided a reliable, non-invasive diagnostic result that a lumbar puncture could not, directly impacting patient care by enabling the initiation of a therapy to slow cognitive decline.
