A Siemens Healthineers Case Study
Inselspital Bern, a university hospital in Switzerland, faced the challenge of differentiating between true tumor recurrence and treatment-related changes in post-treatment glioblastoma patients, a critical distinction for patient management that conventional MRI and static PET imaging could not reliably provide. To address this, they worked with Siemens Healthineers using the Biograph Vision Quadra PET/CT system to perform dynamic 18F-FET PET imaging.
The solution implemented by Siemens Healthineers involved using the long axial field of view of the Biograph Vision Quadra to acquire dynamic PET data, enabling the generation of direct Patlak parametric maps. These voxel-wise images of kinetic parameters provided a more intuitive and accurate method for lesion characterization alongside conventional scans. This approach confirmed a recurrence in one clear case and, most notably, provided critical supporting evidence to correctly classify a borderline case as a treatment-related change, thereby improving diagnostic confidence and guiding appropriate patient therapy.
