Wyoming School District Saves Money by Using Smart Irrigation Technology

Albany County School District #1 needed a better way to manage irrigation at the Laramie High School campus, where several zones were not functioning properly and watering practices did not match the site’s needs. HydroPoint Data Systems helped the district address these issues with its WeatherTRAK smart irrigation controllers, giving the team a way to monitor, control, and troubleshoot irrigation without sending staff into the field.

HydroPoint Data Systems implemented WeatherTRAK controllers, site-specific ET weather data, and flow monitors that automatically shut off water when abnormal flow indicated a leak or break. The solution enabled remote control via mobile device and adjusted watering schedules based on site conditions like topography. Results included 3.9 million gallons of water saved, a 32% reduction in water use, a 64% reduction at one site, and system payback in just 16 months.
