Utah’s 2nd Largest School District Chooses Smart Irrigation to Cut Water Use

Davis School District, Utah’s second largest school district, faced rising water costs, drought restrictions, and the challenge of maintaining more than 2,000 acres across 93 schools and 14 additional sites. With limited staff and growing maintenance demands, the district needed a smarter way to manage irrigation and reduce water waste. Vendor HydroPoint Data Systems, through its WeatherTRAK smart irrigation solution, was selected to help address the problem.

HydroPoint Data Systems implemented WeatherTRAK smart irrigation controllers, cloud-based software, mobile access, and flow sensor technology across the district’s sites. The results included a 35% reduction in water consumption within the first 90 days, 1.6 million gallons saved annually, $50,000 in labor savings and $78,000 in water savings per year, and a system payback in just 2 months.
