A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study
The University of Utah, a large public university and one of the region’s biggest water users, needed a better way to manage campus irrigation and reduce waste across its 800-acre landscape. To address its sustainability goals and long-standing “water waster” reputation, the university turned to HydroPoint Data Systems and its WeatherTRAK irrigation controllers.
HydroPoint Data Systems implemented WeatherTRAK OptiFlow XR controllers across 179 irrigation zones, adding cloud-based coordination, weather-based watering adjustments, flow monitoring, and mobile alerts for leaks and system issues. The new system is expected to save 90 million gallons of water annually, reduce outdoor water use by up to 25%, deliver up to $10 million in water cost savings over seven to ten years, and pay back the investment within three years, while also lowering labor and maintenance costs.
