School District Reduces Water Use by 48% and Eliminates Costly Leaks

Clark & Green Associates, a landscape architecture firm, faced the challenge of designing the Headquarters project at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, California to meet strict sustainability, water-use, and runoff requirements. Working for Lennar Corporation and the City of Irvine, the firm needed a water management approach that could support more than 25 hydrozones, varied plant species, and different site orientations and slopes while also helping the project pursue LEED® certification. HydroPoint Data Systems provided the WeatherTRAK smart water management system.

HydroPoint Data Systems implemented WeatherTRAK with support from a product specialist and an authorized landscape maintenance partner to enable zone-by-zone irrigation control and wireless ET-based watering adjustments. The result was a thriving landscape that uses less water than allotted by the Irvine Ranch Water District, avoids costly water penalties, eliminates runoff, and helps the runoff-free parking lot last about 30% longer while improving pedestrian safety.
