Salem City Rolls Out Smart Irrigation to Avoid or Subsidize Costly Infrastructure Upgrades

Salem City, Utah partnered with HydroPoint Data Systems to address rising water costs, inefficient irrigation, and the potential need for costly water infrastructure upgrades. The city was looking for a smarter way to manage landscape watering across city hall, the cemetery, parks, and other landscaped sites.

HydroPoint implemented WeatherTRAK smart irrigation and cloud-based central control systems, replacing outdated timers and enabling automatic weather-based adjustments and remote scheduling. The results were significant: Salem City saved nearly one million gallons of water in just 180 days, cut its Parks Department water bill in half, and used the savings to help offset or potentially avoid a $15 million metering infrastructure project.
