Salem City reduces water use by 63% with HydroPoint Data Systems

Salem City, Utah faced the challenge of unsustainable water use and the potential need for costly infrastructure upgrades, such as a $1.5 million project to meter consumer usage. To address this, the city partnered with vendor HydroPoint Data Systems and implemented its WeatherTRAK smart irrigation service as part of a new Smart Water Management program.

The solution from HydroPoint involved installing cloud-based, central control irrigation systems that automatically adjust watering schedules for weather conditions. This saved the city nearly one million gallons of water in 180 days, a 63% reduction, and cut the Parks Department's water bill in half. These significant savings helped Salem avoid or subsidize infrastructure costs and improved landscape maintenance efficiency, leading to plans for a broader rollout to local businesses and residents.
