A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study
The Portland Water Bureau sought to reduce water consumption, particularly from commercial outdoor irrigation which was a major use during the city's dry summers. To address this challenge, the bureau partnered with vendor HydroPoint and initiated a study utilizing Baseline soil moisture sensors and controllers to test new conservation technologies.
HydroPoint's solution involved installing its Baseline equipment, which used sensors to automatically adjust irrigation based on real-time soil moisture levels. The results across multiple sites showed significant water savings, with an overall reduction of 34%. Specific examples included a McDonald's Restaurant saving 74.3% and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry saving 37.8%, demonstrating a substantial measurable impact on conservation.
