Case Study: NOAA achieves LEED-certified sustainable roofing with HydroPoint smart irrigation

A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study

NOAA advances LEED certification with HydroPoint on 30% green roofs

The customer, NOAA, faced the challenge of implementing a variety of sustainable design strategies for a major laboratory and office modernization project in La Jolla. This included creating energy-efficient green roofs and terraces planted with native coastal vegetation, which required an effective irrigation solution. HydroPoint provided its BaseStation 3200 controller and biSensor Soil Moisture Sensors for this project.

HydroPoint's smart irrigation system was implemented to manage the green roofs, which cover approximately 30% of the total roof surface. The solution helped moderate temperatures, save energy, and retain rainwater, contributing to the project's overall sustainability goals. This supported NOAA's pursuit of LEED certification for its state-of-the-art facility, which was completed in June 2011.
