Case Study: Midvale City protects a Superfund redevelopment with HydroPoint Baseline smart irrigation

A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study

Midvale City protects a Superfund site and the Jordan River with HydroPoint

Midvale City faced the challenge of developing a residential and commercial area on a former Superfund site contaminated with heavy metals and chemicals. The primary challenge was to control water irrigation precisely to prevent contaminated water from leaching into the nearby Jordan River. To address this, they worked with vendor HydroPoint and its Baseline smart irrigation system.

The solution implemented by HydroPoint used buried moisture sensors to monitor the soil at two depths. The Baseline system automatically shuts off irrigation when moisture levels exceed set limits, ensuring the protective clean soil cap is not compromised. This provided Midvale City with the precise control needed to protect the river from contamination, allowing the successful development of the Bingham Junction site. HydroPoint's technology was deemed extremely valuable by the city, as it was a critical tool in meeting EPA requirements and enabling the safe reuse of the land.
