A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study
Lowe's, a major home improvement retailer, sought to reduce its environmental footprint and operational costs, with a specific focus on minimizing water use and greenhouse gas emissions from landscape irrigation at its thousands of stores. To address this challenge, the company partnered with vendor HydroPoint and implemented its smart irrigation service.
HydroPoint implemented its smart irrigation system, which uses detailed weather data and AT&T IoT technology to calculate the precise water needed for landscaping. This solution from HydroPoint resulted in massive savings for Lowe's: water use was reduced by 650 million gallons annually across 939 stores, saving an estimated $5 million in water costs. The reduction in water usage also effectively reduced community greenhouse gas emissions by an amount equivalent to burning 84 thousand gallons of gasoline.
