Lowe’s Reduces Water Use and Carbon Footprint with Smart Irrigation Across 939 Stores

Lowe’s, the home improvement retailer, wanted to reduce the environmental footprint and operating costs of its store landscapes, especially water use and the related carbon emissions from water treatment and pumping. To address this challenge, Lowe’s worked with HydroPoint Data Systems and AT&T, using HydroPoint smart irrigation controllers powered by AT&T IoT connectivity.

HydroPoint Data Systems helped Lowe’s deploy smart irrigation across 939 stores, using weather and evapotranspiration data to water more efficiently. The result is an estimated annual savings of 650 million gallons of water, about $5 million in water costs, and roughly 750 metric tons of CO2e avoided each year, equivalent to not burning about 84,000 gallons of gasoline.
