Case Study: Garden City achieves 37% water savings with HydroPoint WeatherTRAK

A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study

Preview of the Garden City Case Study

Garden City, Kansas Lives Up to Its Name with Smart Irrigation

Garden City, Kansas, faced a tough irrigation challenge: its dry, windy climate and long stretches without rain made it difficult to manage water efficiently across roughly 115 controllers for roadsides and parks. The city was manually turning controllers on and off each season and after every rainfall, while watering everything on the same schedule regardless of soil or plant needs. To improve water and labor management, Garden City worked with HydroPoint Data Systems and SiteOne Landscape Supply and piloted WeatherTRAK.

HydroPoint Data Systems’ WeatherTRAK system automated irrigation based on weather and site needs, stopping watering after rain and reducing unnecessary irrigation. With WeatherTRAK Central, the superintendent could monitor usage and receive alerts for issues like line breaks, while the city also adopted HydroPoint University training to get the most from the platform. The pilot delivered 37% water savings at one site, was expanded citywide, and led Garden City to move forward with installing smart irrigation controllers throughout the city.
