City of Hope Medical Center Cuts Outdoor Water Usage by 25% and Reduces Liabilities During Growth and Expansion

City of Hope Medical Center, a 120-acre research and treatment campus northeast of Los Angeles, needed a better way to manage outdoor irrigation across a large and varied landscape while complying with water restrictions, controlling rising costs, and reducing risks from overwatering. The hospital’s facilities team also had to protect plant health and manage liability concerns tied to slips, falls, mold, and mildew. HydroPoint Data Systems provided the WeatherTRAK smart irrigation solution.

HydroPoint Data Systems installed WeatherTRAK smart controllers across the campus, starting with a pilot before expanding to 47 controllers. The weather-based automation and remote web programming quickly cut truck rolls and manual adjustments, reduced irrigation run times by one-third, and lowered outdoor water usage by 25%, saving $45,833 annually. City of Hope also improved operational efficiency during 15% growth in facilities and reduced landscape-related liabilities.
