A HydroPoint Data Systems Case Study
The Resort at Pelican Hill’s, a Newport Beach golf resort and landscape steward, needed to reduce outdoor water use across its 100-acre property while maintaining high-end aesthetics and protecting nearby ocean resources. HydroPoint Data Systems helped support the effort with WaterSense labeled weather-based irrigation controllers, along with other water-efficiency measures.
HydroPoint Data Systems’ smart irrigation controls were used to schedule watering based on local weather and site conditions, while ValleyCrest also added drip irrigation, high-efficiency nozzles, drought-tolerant plants, and micro-zones for different plant types. The resort cut water use by more than 48 million gallons from 2009 to 2010, reduced costs by $75,000, and kept total water use about 20 percent below budget on average, with the smart controllers expected to pay for themselves in about three years.
