Solar Impulse, the pioneering fuel‑less aircraft project, needed to turn its historic circumnavigation into a global conversation with governments, the cleantech industry and the public. The communications team faced the challenge of building and monitoring Twitter followings across three accounts, identifying and engaging influential figures by location, and scaling targeted outreach to journalists, policymakers and supporters.
Using Audiense for personalised organic campaigns and audience monitoring, Solar Impulse segmented and analysed followers (and #FutureIsClean interactions), then ran targeted DMs and outreach at scale. The campaign drove 125,000 new followers (a 387% growth), sparked 153,000 conversations from 61,000 users, generated hundreds of news pieces on major outlets (BBC, CNN, National Geographic), produced 3,000 thunderclap participants and 38,000 website clicks in 24 hours, and attracted large live audiences including 120,000 viewers for an Akon broadcast.
