Red Clay Consolidated School District boosts 4th and 5th grade literacy with 95 Percent Group's 95 Phonics Core Program

Red Clay Consolidated School District, a public school district in Delaware, was facing challenges with poor reading comprehension outcomes in its upper elementary grades. Data indicated that decoding and vocabulary were the root causes of these struggles for their 4th and 5th grade students. To address this, the district partnered with vendor 95 Percent Group Inc. to implement the 95 Phonics Core Program®.

The solution from 95 Percent Group was a Tier 1 phonics curriculum providing 30-minute daily lessons focused on advanced word study, including syllable types and morphology. A third-party study of the implementation found significant improvements. From beginning to end of the year, the number of 4th and 5th graders reading on or above grade level increased by 24% and 11%, respectively, with substantial growth in phonics subdomain scores. 95 Percent Group's program successfully provided the explicit phonics instruction these older elementary students needed.
